Non-Toxic Childcare & Early Learning Cleaning in Geelong
Children spend their days close to the floor, hands and toys in mouths, breathing the air right at surface level — which is exactly where conventional cleaning leaves the most residue. GreenClean delivers low-tox cleaning built for Geelong childcare and early learning centres, using dry steam and activated water so hygiene never comes at the cost of what children touch and breathe. We keep TGA-listed disinfectants for disinfection-critical tasks only.

Why low-tox matters most in an early learning setting
A childcare centre is the hardest cleaning environment to get right because the people inside it are the most vulnerable and the least able to avoid residue. Infants crawl across floors and put hands to mouths constantly. Toys get chewed. Little bodies breathe at the exact height where sprayed product settles. Standard commercial cleaning is designed to satisfy the eye and the nose — the fresh scent that reassures a passing adult is, in fact, a volatile organic compound at child breathing height.
The health case is not speculative. The AIHW attributes 9 to 15 per cent of adult-onset asthma to occupational exposure, and cleaning is a named high-risk occupation. Svanes et al. (2018) found lung-function decline in cleaners comparable to around 20 pack-years of smoking. Your educators clean throughout the day — nappy areas, tables, spills — so they carry that exposure alongside the children. Reducing the hazardous chemistry in the building protects both groups at once.
How our methods work
We lead with elimination, the top of the WHS hierarchy of controls, rather than managing hazardous product with gloves and ventilation.
Dry steam uses low-moisture, high-temperature vapour to lift soil and decontaminate surfaces thermally. It reaches into the textures where grime hides — mat seams, high chairs, cot rails, plastic play equipment — and leaves surfaces dry and touch-ready quickly, with no chemical film to wipe off or leave behind.
Electrolysed water (HOCl) is made on site from water and a trace of salt. It is GECA-certified and TGA-listed, and it reverts to salt water after use. It cleans effectively without adding synthetic chemicals to the room.
Stabilised aqueous ozone cleans and deodorises, then reverts to oxygen and water — useful for odour-prone zones like nappy change and bin areas.
Colour-coded microfibre with disciplined dwell times prevents cross-contamination between nappy areas, kitchens, bathrooms and play spaces.
Where a task is genuinely disinfection-critical — an illness outbreak, a nappy-change surface, a blood or bodily-fluid spill — we use a TGA-listed disinfectant at the correct contact time. Disinfection is applied where it is needed, not sprayed indiscriminately across every surface a child will later touch.
We describe this honestly: no added synthetic chemicals and no hazardous residue on general surfaces. We do not claim "chemical-free", because that would be untrue and against ACCC guidance.
The compliance and standards angle
Early learning services work to ACECQA and National Quality Standard expectations around health, hygiene and safe environments. Low-tox cleaning supports that framing directly: you can show families and assessors that hygiene is achieved without exposing children to unnecessary hazardous chemistry.
There is a regulatory shift coming too. From 1 December 2026, enforceable Workplace Exposure Limits replace the current WES across roughly 700 reviewed chemicals. Centres that eliminate hazardous product now are ahead of that change rather than scrambling to measure and control exposure later. For services pursuing building ratings, GECA-certified products are deemed-to-satisfy for the Green Star Green Cleaning credit, and reduced VOCs support NABERS Indoor Environment outcomes.
What a Geelong program looks like
Geelong's coastal humidity adds mould pressure to bathrooms, damp play areas and poorly ventilated store rooms, so we build moisture management and thermal decontamination into the schedule rather than treating mould reactively.
A typical Geelong childcare program includes daily cleaning of high-touch surfaces, tables, floors, bathrooms and nappy-change areas, with toy and equipment sanitising on a defined rotation. Frequency is matched to your room count, enrolment and operating hours — we scope this against your actual layout, not a template. Periodic deep-steam work targets mats, soft-play, upholstered items and grout. Everything runs on colour-coded systems with documented dwell times so your quality evidence is clear.
Pricing
We price at parity with conventional cleaning on standard scopes. A modest premium of 10 to 15 per cent applies only on health or rating-critical sites where the specification is more demanding. The walkthrough and quote are free, so you can compare against your current arrangement with real numbers before deciding anything.

Frequently asked questions
Is non-toxic cleaning actually effective enough for a childcare centre?
Yes. Dry steam decontaminates thermally and electrolysed water is a TGA-listed sanitiser, so general surfaces are cleaned to a high standard without hazardous residue. For genuinely disinfection-critical tasks — nappy surfaces, outbreaks, bodily-fluid spills — we retain TGA-listed disinfectants at the correct contact time. You get proper hygiene and lower chemical exposure together.
Why do you avoid the term chemical-free?
Because it is not accurate, and the ACCC treats it as misleading. Water and salt are chemicals, and we deliberately keep TGA-listed disinfectants for critical tasks. We say no added synthetic chemicals and no hazardous residue on general surfaces, which is honest and verifiable.
Is it safe for infants crawling on floors and mouthing toys straight after cleaning?
That is exactly what these methods are designed for. Electrolysed water reverts to salt water, aqueous ozone reverts to oxygen and water, and dry steam leaves no chemical film. There is no lingering synthetic residue at the height and surfaces children contact most.
Does this help with ACECQA and National Quality Standard requirements?
It supports them directly. You can demonstrate that hygiene is achieved without exposing children to unnecessary hazardous chemistry, backed by documented colour-coded systems and dwell times for your quality evidence. It also positions you ahead of the enforceable Workplace Exposure Limits arriving in December 2026.
How do you handle Geelong's humidity and mould in bathrooms and damp play areas?
Coastal humidity increases mould pressure, so we build thermal decontamination and moisture management into the schedule rather than treating mould reactively. Dry steam is particularly effective on grout, seals and damp-prone textures without adding chemical load to those rooms.
